Outline of JIS

JIS covers industrial and mineral products with the exception of (1) medicines, (2) agricultural chemicals, (3) chemical fertilizers, (4) silk yarn, and (5) foodstuffs, agricultural and forest products designated under the Law Concerning Standardization and Proper Labeling of Agricultural and Forestry Products.
The, letter symbol indicates the technical area (JIS Division), and the 4-digit or 5-digit number is added to locate the JIS in an appropriate place within that Division (see the explanation in Figure 6)
Standardization items established as JIS have the following symbols:JIS C 7501: The majorities of JIS have this type of symbol.JIS Q 14001: This symbol is mainly used in case JIS adopts international standard identically.JIS X 5056-1: This symbol is used in case JIS adopts international standard specifies only a part of the necessary requirements
